Iris Christine Aue I consider myself as a drawing artist in a broader sense. My works oscillate between two-dimensional drawing and three-dimensional sculpture. I’m dealing with the question of how I get beyond the edge of a sheet of paper right into the space. For me paper is a sculptural material which I bend, break and cut. It becomes an essential part of the picture as it melts together with the subject. During working process I make cut outs, draw and paint on them and finally sew the pieces together, bend and break them in order to create a figure or setting. In this way, the paper is not just the carring medium – it becomes part of the picture and by using its sculptural qualities it turns to spatial drawing.
