Andrew Hewish lives and works in London. Ranging between painting, drawing, sculpture and social practice, Andrew Hewish's work addresses interdependent relations between objects produced under the demands of historical form and narrative, and which structures art practice. The work develops in the tension between the contingencies of the studio and the interjections of the world at large; adrift, lyrical, resistant, a poetics of indeterminacy circles the mute presence of material and things.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), he founded in 2004 as social practice the Centre for Recent Drawing www.c4rd.org.uk, a UK Charity and London's museum space for the exploration and discussion of current drawing practice and thought. He convened the Line Forum at the RCA and Frenzy! at the ICA, and lectures at the CASS, London, and with visitor programmes elsewhere. He curated the public engagement programme at the Warburg Institute, London in 2016/17. He is currently completing his PhD at the Royal College of Art under the supervision of Barry Curtis and Ian Kiaer, sat as as part of the international jury of FID and guest edited a recent volume of the Journal of Visual Art Practice (Routledge).
